LivingSocial, the D.C.-based daily deals site, says more than 50 million customer accounts may have been compromised by a cyberattack.

Customers' names, email addresses, dates of birth and encrypted passwords stored on the company's servers may have been accessed, a company spokesman confirmed in an email to NBCWashington.

The first news of the hacking was reported by All Things Digital.

Credit card information was not accessed or affected, according to the company. Nor was merchants' financial or banking information.

LivingSocial suggests all customers change their passwords on their accounts. The company is in the process of emailing the customers who were affected to help them reset their passwords.

They are also working with law enforcement to investigate the breach.

"The security of our customer and merchant information is our priority," said LivingSocial CEO Tim O'Shaughnessy in the email to customers. "We always strive to ensure the security of our customer information, and we are redoubling efforts to prevent any issues in the future."

Here is the email that LivingSocial is sending to affected customers:

Subject: An important update on your LivingSocial.com account

The database that stores customer credit card information was not affected or accessed.

A group of Garland firefighters is among those honoring fallen first responders in West by covering their shifts during funerals.

It's second nature for first responders to want to help, and it rings closer to home when it's a call to cover one of your own.

"Fire services are a pretty tight-knit family," Garland firefighter Levi Massicotte said. "It doesn't matter if you know somebody or not, they're still your brother or your sister. We're pretty close."

The Garland firefighters are joining a group of first responders from all over the state to man the West fire department as the community continues to bury those killed in last week's fertilizer plant explosion.

"It makes it a little closer to home," Massicotte said. "It touches you a little bit more when you know it could have been you instead, but I'm just happy to go out and help any way we can."

They are also bringing their equipment. The Garland crew is driving a stocked-up engine because a lot of West's equipment was obliterated in the blast.

"Hopefully, they realize they are not alone -- that other communities throughout the state and throughout the nation want to do anything they can and will be willing to help in any way possible," Capt. Robert Fultz said.

"Our hearts and prayers to go out to the family and friends and the community that were impacted by this tragedy," he said.

New Bridge to Ease Traffic, Spark Development

A major part of the historic, 165-year-old Edwards Ranch in Fort Worth is about to change forever.

The changes have been in the works for decades but can finally happen after a major bridge project opened on Friday.

The Clearfork Main Street bridge connects Hulen Street and Bryant Irvin Road, making it a major arterial street in the heart of the city.

City officials cut the ribbon at a ceremony on Friday morning, and traffic was allowed over by early afternoon.

"It gives us another way to get between Bryant Irvin Road and Hulen, instead of just Vickery or I-30 right now, and you know what that's like," City Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Zim Zimmerman .

The bridge is actually a twin set of spans that cross the Trinity River with a pedestrian bridge below.

"As you come across the Hulen bridge, this will be a major asset," Mayor Betsy Price said.

More importantly the bridge, coupled with the nearby Chisholm Trail Parkway, means development of the Clearfork section of Edwards Ranch can get started.

"This truly was the main piece that we needed to begin development, because it's really the first connection into the property," said Paxton Motheral, Cassco Development Co. vice president.

Cassco, owned by the Edwards family, plans on developing 270 acres of property, mostly south of the new toll road. The project will feature apartments, townhomes, retail and green space.

Infrastructure work on the project has been underway for the last seven years with help from the city but, in September, the first phase will begin. Construction on a 50-acre portion of the site should be completed by the end of 2014.

The project is one of many in the city's core, as development is just as important inside Loop 820 as it is outside.

"You never want a city to die from within. You never want all the development to be on the edges; you certainly want to keep your core city vibrant and strong," Price said.

"There's a lot of land yet to be developed inside the loop, and we're starting to try and focus on that before we really try to jump to the outskirts," Zimmerman said.

So while the bridge leads to very little right now, that won't always be the case.

"We want the city of Fort Worth to be proud of what's happening out here on the property," Motheral said.

The first residential phase will feature 398 units of townhomes, contemporary lofts and upscale apartments. The pedestrian bridge is set to open later this spring.

Family Wants Charges in Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

The family of a man who was shot and killed by Dallas police officer is asking the department to take another look at the case.

Clinton Allen, 25, was killed March 10 during a disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Southern Oaks Boulevard.

"I am outraged that this policeman that has no respect for human life is back on the streets of Dallas with a gun again, and you should be outraged," said Allen's mother, Collette Flannagan.

She and the group Justice Seekers Texas say the police account of the shooting does not match up with the autopsy and toxicology reports.

They said that police initially said Allen was high on drugs. The toxicology report shows that the PCP and marijuana in his system was likely smoked two or three days before the shooting, Justice Seekers Texas said.

"Everybody was under the assumption that this was one of those cases where one of these young men were on drugs and they attacked a police officer but, from the information that we have and the witnesses, that is not true. That is a lie," said the Rev. Ronald Wright, director of Justice Seekers Texas.

Police said Allen was knocking on the door of a female resident and threatening her. He also sent her numerous text messages threatening to kick in her door, investigators said.

Officer Clark Staller responded after the woman, who knew Allen through mutual friends, called 911.

Police said Staller pulled his weapon and shouted at Allen to show his hands after he saw the man jump over a fence. Staller put his gun away and pulled out his stun gun when Allen complied, but Allen grabbed Staller collar, police said.

Staller shocked Allen twice during the ensuing scuffle, but the officer said it had no effect, police said. Staller said Allen began choking him and, in fear of his life, he pulled out his gun and fired, according to Dallas police.

The autopsy report shows that Allen was shot seven times four times in the chest, once in the abdomen, once in the arm and once in the back, his family said.

"Executed like a rabid animal. Who does that to another human being?" Flannagan said. "You can't even shoot an animal seven times and not go to jail."

His family said Allen was the father of twins younger than 2 years old.

Wright said Justice Seekers Texas has new witness affidavits from people who were in the area at the time of the shooting. He said he has forwarded the affidavits and the toxicology and autopsy reports to police department's internal investigations unit.

Wright said the group's next move would be to try to schedule a meeting with the district attorney in the hopes of getting the case in front of a grand jury.

"It was a grievous murder, and it's unfortunate this family has to go through this," he said.
Dallas police said the shooting is under investigation. When the investigation is concluded, the case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office for presentation to a grand jury.

Staller, who has been with the Dallas Police Department for nearly five years, has returned to his regular duties.

Trucks started pulling in to Arlington Friday morning for the biggest food truck festival in the state.

The Texas Food Truckin' Festival is being held Friday and Saturday.

"It's so much fun," said Barbara Tucker, owner of Aunt Sweet Tooth's food truck. "We just love events like this. We love big crowds of people and just have a blast on this truck."

Tucker and her family made the drive from Gainesville to take part in the festival.

It takes a certain kind of person to run a food truck, she said.

"It's a complete kitchen built inside of this truck, so you have to be a little bit insane to even want to do that," Tucker said.

But you only have to be hungry to attend the festival.

"The food options are great," said Decima Cooper, of the city visitor's bureau. "There are all different types of food cuisines."

Trucks from all over the state are offering up food from all over the world, each with something unique to offer.

"We have the best hamburgers ever," Tucker said. "We have something called the Holy Burger that's actually two patties of meat with all the good stuff in between."

Sean Decker of Texas Rangers Enterprises said food truck owners are "amazing chefs who don't want to make the investment in a brick-and-mortar shop, so this is a more cost-effective way to do it."

"They're churning out incredible food," Decker said. "What's unique about this is that, never in North Texas have we had this many trucks in one location."

Decker said the team would like to get to the point where the ballpark is more than just a place to catch a ballgame.

We're trying to bring folks to the ballpark for things other than baseball events," Decker said. "We want 50,000-plus for all 81 home games and the playoffs, but we want folks coming all year long."

A percentage of the proceeds from the festival will benefit the American Cancer Society.

Dallas police arrested a woman early Friday after Texas Department of Transportation cameras show she was driving the wrong way on U.S. Highway 75.

The incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. Officers managed to pull over and arrest Tiffany Amber Summitt, 33, charging her with DWI.

Video from TxDOT traffic cameras shows a vehicle heading south in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 in the area of the High Five interchange at Interstate 635 in north Dallas.

In 2011, the most recent year for which there is data available, there were 3,088 wrong way crashes on Texas roads, according to the TxDOT. Those crashes resulted in 213 deaths.

According to a 2004 study from the Texas Transportation Institute and Texas A & M University, wrong way crashes are most likely to happen between midnight and six a.m., With the most frequent time period being from 2 - 3 a.m.

Wrong-way crashes most commonly occur in the left lane of the highway, according to the study, because the driver at fault believes they are in the right lane.  And more than half of the wrong way drivers had some influence of alcohol or drugs cited by the investigating officer, according to the study.

Arlington's Massive Viridian Community Taking Shape

advertisement

Progress is being made at the massive Viridian community in North Arlington.

The new development on Collins Street is expected to add 15,000 residents, more than 3,000 houses, condos and retail on more than 2,300 acres of land in the heart of North Texas.

Viridian is expected to boast a more than $1.5 billion tax base upon completion.

It will be at least another 15 years before the development is complete, but that hasn't stopped some people from wanting to move in early.

"I'm just moving in. I'm very excited," said Laurie Stephan.

Phase one of the development - currently one of the largest mixed use residential projects in the country - is sold out. Phase two is being developed with more than 200 homes expected to be sold this year with townhomes, condos and an elementary school on the horizon.

"I don't think anyone expected the kind of success or velocity we're having this early in the process," said Robert Kimball, President of JCKPL developers, the group in charge of Viridian.

While today there's no sign of development slowing down, there was a time when folks wondered if anything would ever be built here.

For years developers said permitting and the terrain were just too complicated to work with.

"I think we've surprised some of the people who have seen this property struggle over the last 100 years - it's been a long time," said Kimball. "We've got an unprecedented location. We're close to all the employment centers in DFW."

Kimball credits an improving housing market, a public-private partnership that uses tax dollars to pay for infrastructure and location.

Kimball said home values have gone up an average of $20,000 in six months, adding thatViridian is resonating.

"It's not lot size or landscaping or architecture or street trees or the layering of all the landscaping on the parks and trails - it's all of those things combined," said Kimball.

Laurie Stephan agreed.

"It looks like it will be a community it's not just going to be a house," she said.

Up in the Air With T. Boone Pickens

advertisement

Even at 30,000 feet, T. Boone Pickens rarely stops.

Most Texans know the 84-year-old as an oilman. He is on the Forbes list every year and, according to it, is worth $1.2 billion.

On a recent day, a Gulfstream 550 with orange and black stripes awaits the billionaire, whose birthday and initials are on the jet's tail, at Dallas Love Field at 11 a.m.

He arrives by car on the tarmac and, in less than four minutes, his G-5 is wheels up. Before noon, he is 30,000 feet in the air.

Each seat has a monitor that shows the plane's location and speed.

"Yeah, we are right on 600," Pickens said from his leather chair.

The trading day is still young. Pickens dials up the trading desk at his Dallas Hedge Fund, BP Capital.

"I want to know what the market is doing anyway," he said.

Still in the skies over Dallas, Pickens is calling the shots.

"Thirteen billion? OK, so you're down now on the oil, you're down $12 this month," he said to the trader at the other end of the phone.

He watches Bloomberg TV on one of 10 TVs on the luxury jet. On another, he keeps up with news reports.

But now it is meeting time. Jay Rosser, BP Capital vice president of public affairs Pickens' chief of staff, briefs him on media coverage and the day ahead.

"See, we've been working on that New York Times story -- natural gas, heavy-duty trucks," Rosser said.

The two go over several articles and an itinerary for the day in South Carolina, today's destination.

In less than two hours, Pickens lands in Pickens County. Today, he is tracing his ancestry. Two genealogists and several other members of his BP Capital staff are on board with him.

When asked if he enjoys his busy life, Pickens said, "Yeah, I like this life. I don't find anything wrong with it."

The $50 million jet itself is key in his fast-paced life.

"Well, I couldn't do it on the airlines, but I could do it on a smaller plane," he said with a smile.

His G-550 has 18 seats, two bathrooms, four phones, two large TVs, eight smaller ones, a fridge and two full-time pilots with a combined 65 years of experience.

But it's not a cheap way to travel. Pickens said the fuel costs $7,000 per hour.

"It's worth it," he said.

advertisement

A commander who oversaw the school that employed three Marines killed in a murder-suicide in Virginia has been relieved of his job, the Marine Corps Times reported.

Col. Kris J. Stillings will no longer lead the Officer Candidates School (OCS) at the Quantico Base, due to the deaths of Sgt. Eusebio Lopez, Cpl. Jacob Wooley and Lance Cpl. Sara Castromata.

Lopez, 25, shot and killed Wooley and Castromata in March before taking his own life in the barracks. All three were assigned to the OCS.

A general who spoke to the Marine Corps Times about Stillings' dismissal called the decision "painful" but said it came down to a matter of accountability.
