Hundreds of loved ones and co-workers remembered an Irving police officer who died Sunday.
Funeral services for Officer Corey Lee Cooksey were held at Calvary Church on Friday.
Cooksey died Sunday at the Baylor Medical Center in Grapevine a few days after he was admitted with low blood pressure. His cause of death is unknown.
"I would say 90 percent of the people he wrote tickets to thanked him for the ticket, and it was just one of those things we laughed about," close friend Officer Charles Van Deren said. "It's like, I would get the exact opposite reaction, but with Corey it would be, 'Thank you for the three tickets you wrote me officer. I'll try to be careful in the future.'"
Cooksey joined the Irving Police Department in February 1999. He most recently served as a motor officer with the Special Operations Division.
He is survived by his wife and 9-year-old son.
His family requested that donations be made to the "Corey Cooksey Memorial Fund" at the Irving City Employees Federal Credit Union in lieu of flowers.
